Bugesera: UNABU in partnership with Kabgayi Eye Hospital and SeeYou Ntwali’s family restored hope for future

Jean Paul Ntwali was born with malformed eyes, a condition known as congenital malformation. However, he lacked the means to seek treatment until he was totally blind. His seven children were also born with same condition and they were not treated too until they met UNABU in May 2025 at Ngeruka Health Center, in Bugesera District. The family was suffering from glaucoma.

Few days after the case was identified, UNABU Executive Director Mrs MUSHIMIYIMANA Gaudence met the Dr Theophine at SeeYou Foundation Partners workshop. The two leaders discussed the case and opportunities for partnership and agreed the whole family should attend Kabgayi Eye Hospital for further examination and support. The seven Children and their father attend the hospital for medical consultation from 23-26 June 2025.

Ntwali met UNABU during a community health screening outreach conducted in Bugesera, Ngeruka sector in partnership with Rilima Orthopedic hospital. Ntwali accompanied his daughter Akarabo Cynthia to attend the screening and used the opportunity to share his case with Dr Albert Nzayisenga the Director General of Rilima Hospital who advised to consult Dr. Theophile Tuyisabe, Director of Kabgayi Eye Hospital for further diagnostic and support.

On July 15, 2025, a date the Ntwali family will never forget, they received comprehensive and free eye care. It gave them new hope, not just for clear vision rather for a better future.
